What a big day Saturday 24th August was, a stunning winters day was provided by mother Nature for the Rally-O competition at the Central Coast Dog Training Club in Kincumber.
Once the competition started it was all go!
Rally-O trials are a little bit different – they are not as fast paced as agility but they are a bit more sped up than obedience – quite a nice mix really. Rally-O is described as “A dog sport based on obedience, but, unlike regular obedience, instead of waiting for the judge’s orders, the competitors proceed around a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. The course consists of 10 to 20 signs that instruct the team what to do. Unlike traditional obedience, handlers are allowed to encourage their dogs during the course.”
Rally-O is a sport for dogs of all breeds and there were plenty of breeds represented last week.
One of the things I loved most about photographing this competition was seeing the bond between owners and dogs and the sheer joy with which the dogs completed their courses.
Of course there were plenty of dogs who at the end of the day were awarded with placing ribbons – certificates – and qualifications.
And for some it just gets all too much…
