Beautiful Beasties is an international network of professional pet photographers, of which I am very privileged to be a part of. Within the network a group was formed for photographers who wanted to participate in a project, a 52 week project. Each week a theme is chosen and posted, then we all go out and take a photograph or series of photographs to fit the theme, then we all post onto our own websites and form a ring by linking all the websites. That means you can look at my images and then follow the links all over the world to see what other pet photographers are capturing.

The theme for week 5 is – Fitness – Since January is usually is the month where we revisit health and exercise, Karen (from California who chose this theme) thought it would be fun to capture our pets fitness routine. Doggie yoga, cat stretches, agility, runs, catching frisbees, etc.

The weather here for the 1st half of the week was wet, wet, wet and the only one getting any exercise were the ducks! But thankfully yesterday and today were absolutely stunning, and the ground dried out just enough to get out this morning for a shoot.

So, let me introduce to to the first of todays 3 models….

This is Blue…

Blue, is a Koolie and a very active one at that, so a week of rainy weather has been very hard for him!

Next up is Dash…

02_sharonstokesphotography_6154

Dash is also a very active Koolie – both Blue and Dash have been entered into this years Sydney Royal Easter Show Agility competition, so they were out in the training paddock for the 1st time in a week….

Training started with some free time – energy burning – play…

See Blue with his wild “I’ve been cooped up all week eyes”?

Once they had settled, a little, Dash showed me how to use the see-saw

Blue showed me ‘go-around’

Then it was time for some jumping fun!

Now after I few goes each, I asked Louise – “can they jump together?” Her response – “they haven’t but we will give it a go”

Of course for this pair of little super-dogs the request was no trouble at all! I should tell you all that Dash & Blue are both pretty famous, their Mum, Louise, owns Animal Talent and both Dash & Blue have seen their fair share of film and TV work, so it was time to show me a trick..

this is “Tall”

Oh, Blue still had a bit too much energy and got a bit confused…

13_sharonstokesphotography_6135

We had a really great morning and it was almost time for me to leave, but Louise had one more surprise for me, I’d like to introduce you to Joker…

14_sharonstokesphotography_6189

Oh boy is this guy a sweetie!!! At just 15 months this little Koolie has only just started his training, although he has already had loads of experience herding cattle and Man can he move!

Week Four of Project 52 challenges us with the theme of “Frame It!” We were to consider creative ways of framing our subject. Not in the sense of a picture frame, but in the sense of framing your subject as part of the composition. When considering composition, there are so many ways of creatively framing your subject, between something such as a doorway or table legs or bushes, or you can be more subtle in the framing.

My 1st image is a beautiful horse “framed” by his stable door…

Next I photographed Skarla on our way home from our Family weekend away “framed” in my car window…

sharonstokesphotography-DSC_5864-Edit

Yes, she looks a little grumpy – she didn’t see why we had to stop the car for yet another photo!! I think I was getting the same look from my Hubby too!!

Skarla did give me a happier face when I bribed her with left over meat pie, it was Australia Day, after all!

And that is the last of my catch up posts, so on Friday, I will be joining the blog ring, that means at the end of my post on Friday, there will be a link to another pet photographer somewhere around the world!

See you all Friday, S.

The theme for week 2 was “January” – with members from all around the world, January can have very different views. For us here on the NSW Central Coast, January means SUMMER! Summer and school holidays, early January for our Family usually means a holiday with both us parents off work for a few weeks. This year we went away with Friends to their new property just North of Gloucester, Skarla and the kids had an awesome time!

There was plenty of ball games and sniffing the twilight breeze for Kangaroo smells…

sharonstokesphotography-DSC_5368

There was time for dirt-bike riding and chasing dirt bikes too!

There was time for enjoying the view with best mates – Skarla and her BFF Bindi…

And as the temperature soared close to 40 degrees Celsius there was ample time for cooling off in the creek!!

Happy New Year! 2015 is upon us and I am excited about what this year may hold for us!

**As I have missed the first few weeks, I will play catch up with a few posts this week and next, my first ‘official’ week with connections to the blog ring will be Friday 30th January.**

Our very first blog post of the year for Beautiful Beasties Network is Introductions. So, I’d like to introduce you to myself, and more importantly, to my dog, Skarla & some of my Flock of Chickens, that you will be seeing a lot of in the coming weeks & months.

Lets start with Skarla, here is her 2014 Xmas picture,

sharonstokesphotography_0623

Skarla is my best friend, my confidant and my snuggle buddy, she is 6 now and in her prime! Skarla loves to sneak into the house and sleep on my bed, chase the rats and possums at night and generally just hang out wherever the Family is, she is a beautiful soul and I love her to bits!!

Now, the chickens, we currently have a flock of 6 Girls and my rooster Magic, the flock is a mix of breeds, colours and sizes, Magic and 3 of the Girls we hatched last year under a broody hen, you may have already read about the chicks and seen their growing up pictures. Magic is now very much coming into himself as a rooster – crowing and strutting proudly around – he and I are slowly coming to terms with who is actually the boss!

sharonstokesphotography_7914

Next are 2 of his 3 Girls who hatched with him, Happy Feet & Turbo

sharonstokesphotography_7908

sharonstokesphotography_7921

Now that Magic is crowing these Girls should start to lay soon.

I also have 2 Girls who are rescue Hens from – Sydney Hen Rescue – these Girls were rescued from a battery farm and are now living and laying happily in our little flock..

There is also Snowball & Blizzard, but I’ll keep there photos for another post.

Oh, and the pet mice! I’m sure they will feature son too.

I hope you enjoyed this little introduction, stay tuned for the next instalment.
