Beautiful Beasties is an international network of professional pet photographers, of which I am very privileged to be a part of. Within the network a group was formed for photographers who wanted to participate in a project, a 52 week project. Each week a theme is chosen and posted, then we all go out and take a photograph or series of photographs to fit the theme, then we all post onto our own websites and form a ring by linking all the websites. That means you can look at my images and then follow the links all over the world to see what other pet photographers are capturing.

The theme for week 13, chosen by Kathryn from Connecticut, USA, is “Lines” – with a nice simple brief – “Leading lines, painted lines, tree lines, whatever!  Let’s see them!”

Well, I had few ideas for this one and as Skarla was going to be my model and there are no kids around my place for Easter (they have gone camping with my Hubby) we had lots of time and opportunities, so you might be expecting some really fab location or super-duper props…

but what you are getting is Skarla in her favourite sun-baking spot, the new back deck that my Hubby built recently :) The deck flooring made for a great ‘lined’ backdrop and Skarla loves it way more than the mud that was there before!

The theme for week 11, chosen by Deanna from Denver in the USA, is Texture and our brief was…” We (photographers) love to talk bokeh but sometimes it’s great to see a lot of texture. It can be natural or man made, a background, foreground, a pet’s fur, a cat’s tongue. It can have a pattern or be abstract. Whatever it is the more detail you capture the more texture we will see. ”

Another great theme with loads of possibilities!

This week I will start off with my ‘Texture’ image, and then explain it….

Week 10’s theme – Mans Best Friend – was chosen by Melissa McCabe from Canada, her brief was – ” There’s something very special about a grown man unable to hide his depth of feeling toward his pet. Whether posing together, playing together, cuddling together, or even smootching his pooch on the lips – this week show the bond between a grown man and his pet.”

With a very busy week this week, I thought I was going to have to skip this theme, but a quick delve through the archives and I came across two images that had not been processed or ever seen the light of day, i much prefer to take new images each week, but sometimes the hectic schedule just beats me.

So may I present to you “Ollie” and his very loving Dad….

The theme for week 9, chosen by Jayme Dukart from Oregon City is “Shoes” – “I think it would be fun to see what everyone comes up with that involves pets and shoes.  It could be a dog standing in a pair of shoes..maybe a cat curled up in a shoe box…or a favorite pair of shoes that have been chewed up by a puppy?”

I had so many ideas for this theme, so I decided to spread the theme over two photo-shoots using two dogs. Firstly I went and visited ‘Little Miss’ at her home…

Little Miss has a new baby brother or sister on the way soon….
