Beautiful Beasties is an international network of professional pet photographers, of which I am very privileged to be a part of. Within the network a group was formed for photographers who wanted to participate in a project, a 52 week project. Each week a theme is chosen and posted, then we all go out and take a photograph or series of photographs to fit the theme, then we all post onto our own websites and form a ring by linking all the websites. That means you can look at my images and then follow the links all over the world to see what other pet photographers are capturing.

The theme for week 8, chosen by Stephanie, from Somerset, NJ is LOVE – our brief this week was simple – “I know Valentine’s Day just passed but would love to see any Valentine’s Day themed pics or just a photo showing love. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!”

So with Love in mind I headed out to see what I could find….

I met up with Little Miss ruby and her ‘Boys’, I had in mind some really cute cuddle shots showing just how much the Boy’s love Ruby, so we started with this..

Then we took Ruby off the lead, and well, the direction of the shoot changed…now the shoot was all about what Ruby LOVE’s to do.

Like how Ruby LOVE’s to swim with the ducks..

Ruby LOVE’s to win races with her Boys..

sharonstokesphotography--3

Ruby LOVE’s to play jump in the water with her Boys..

Ruby LOVE’s to steal scary feathers..

sharonstokesphotography--5

Ruby LOVE’s to leap off the jetty with her Boys..

sharonstokesphotography--7

Ruby LOVE’s to bring dead things to the Boys (not sure how much Mum loves this habit)..

sharonstokesphotography--10

sharonstokesphotography--9

Ruby also LOVE’s to give the lady with the camera ‘puppy dog eye’s for extra treat credits..

sharonstokesphotography--8

And at the end of an exhausting session of swimming, leaping and running Ruby LOVE’s a good cuddle..

I hope you all enjoyed looking at our LOVE session today, don’t forget this is a blog ring, so follow the links, starting with –Blinker Photography, Portland Pet Photography by Gabby Francis – and keep following the LOVE until you get back here.

A very beautiful Family, who I have had the pleasure to photograph a few times now, recently added a new addition, I would like to introduce you all to Master Comet – superstar in the making…..

sharonstokesphotography--2

Comet left big Sister and Brother, Skye & Miko at home and came into the studio on his own, lets just say that there were loads of cuddles involved in this session! Comet was such a good little boy (it does help when Mum is a top-notch dog trainer here on the Coast)

Comet is planning in following in the paws of the rest of his Family and competing in Agility and Obedience trials – personally I think he will have no problems at all, but for now he is simply playing the ‘cute’ card – and doesn’t he do that well?

sharonstokesphotography--7

After so much hard work modelling for me Comet got some free time – even then he was just so CUTE!!

I really could have photographed this little guy all day long :) Thanks Gail for bringing Comet into the studio, I look forward to photographing him more as he grows up.

The theme for week 7, chosen by Heather from Parkton MD, USA, is ‘Happy Face’ –  “I want to see pictures of what your pups look like as soon as you get home from work or an outing, or just them generally happy to see you.  I can already picture my photo of my Huskies ears flat on her head as she wags her tail when I get home from work…”

Well at first this theme sounded really easy – go out – come home and photograph how happy and excited Skarla is too see me….. ummm, yes only problem is Skarla is an absolute MASTER at the ‘Blue Steel’ look…

Skarla - "Oh your going out are you?"

Skarla – “Oh your going out are you?”

And then I come home…..

Skarla - "Oh goody, your home"

Skarla – “Oh goody, your home”

and then….

"At least you brought treats"

“At least you brought treats”

Lets hope if you follow the links around the blog ring you will see some more expressive pets than Skarla {I do know that on the inside she is jumping for joy when I get home}, start your global photography journey this week with San Francisco Bay Area Professional Pet Photographers, Photo Lab Pet Photography , keep following the links until you end up back here with us.

Oh and just because yesterday was Valentines Day, Skarla the kids and I had some fun, so here is a quick shot to say Happy Valentines day and be sure to kiss your pooch…

I have news…great big exciting news….

Firstly I would like to introduce you all to a great global network called HeARTs Speak

HeARTs Speak is a global network of animal photographers, artists, authors, graphic designers, and advocates who believe in the power of collaboration. We are a partner-based organization committed to making a positive and lasting impact with our members, other organizations and the greater community. We provide our partners access to images, stories, and services that help them further their cause. Together and united in our efforts, we are ambassadors of change.”

Can you guess what my news is?

ServicePro-slantThat’s right, I have been accepted as a service professional member of HeARTs Speak, due to the work I do photographing animals for local rescue groups (insert happy dance here). Because all my work with rescue animals is voluntary – and it makes me feel good – to be accepted as a service professional member of HeARTs Speak gives me a warm fuzzy feeling of validation.

Now, all my images of rescue animals waiting to be adopted will have a lovely new watermark, like this image of Toots who is available for adoption at Gosford Dog Paws

sharonstokesphotography--2

or like this, for little Chloe was was just adopted earlier tonight…

sharonstokesphotography-8096-2

I do feel very strongly about the plight of so many animals who are in rescue groups or animal shelters all around the world, I do the best and the most that I can for the animals local to me. I would like to ask that everyone who reads this post take a few minutes to think about how you might be able to help too….can you volunteer some time to walk or play with some dogs in your local pound? Can you take an animal into your home as a foster carer? Can you adopt a new Family member? Can you donate goods or money to your local rescue group? Can you simply tell others about the need to help animals who are without Families of their own?

Who knows you might end up as lucky as me….my very own Skarla was adopted…

pawprint_images_skarla_smile

Thank you for taking the time to think about the animals.

Just before Xmas I was blessed to have three of the cutest, most fun kids around visit the studio for a secret photo-shoot, the idea was to end up with an image that could be a BIG wall canvas for their Dad’s Xmas present….

sharonstokesphotography--10

Above was the chosen image for the canvas, but there were so many other great images, Mum decided to get extra prints and send them to relatives in both Australia and New Zealand, how great is that?!

sharonstokesphotography--2

Now these three all dance, but due to an unfortunate camping accident, Miss E had her arm in a cast for the end of year dance photos and missed out, so we had some fun with the I-pod and took some dance shots too, here first up is Miss E. – without her cast –

sharonstokesphotography--3

sharonstokesphotography--4

Both Miss E. and little Miss S. are learning Ballet, Jazz & Tap….

sharonstokesphotography--8

sharonstokesphotography--9

While Master L. is learning Hip Hop, plays soccer and Guitar…

sharonstokesphotography--6

(and I am pretty sure Master L. really rocks that ‘old Holywood’ style…

sharonstokesphotography--7

Lastly, I just want to share one of my favourite shots from our session….

sharonstokesphotography-

Thanks so much Nat for bringing your beautiful kids into the studio, I hope Dad loved his BIG canvas 😉
